My Backup System

As a photographer, my backup system is one of the most important parts of my business. These files are just so important. They are other people’s memories and my business. I take backing up my files very seriously. Like they-are-backed-up-in-five-places seriously I have heard horror story after horror story of peoples hard drives crashing and losing all the files. I had no idea where to begin when it came to backing up my images at first. I had them all sitting on one hard drive. I actually even deleted my RAW files after I edited the images from my first couple of weddings (omg totally fail what the heck).

My primary and secondary drive at LaCie hard drives. They are 2TB drives that I got off of Amazon. This year I shot 22 weddings and a ton of sessions and the 2TB hard drives were not enough. I will buy 4TB hard drives for 2020.

My Backup #2 Drive is a WD Passport. This drive is connected to CrashPlan so it basically is just a holding place for my files to be backed up to the cloud.

CrashPlan is a cloud backup system. It will constantly be backing up the drive you have CrashPlan scanning whenever your computer is open. You get an unlimited amount of storage on CrashPlan and if you delete a file off of the hard drive that is being backed up to the cloud, it will not be deleted from the cloud.

I have so so so so many SD cards. To me, it’s worth it. These cards are relatively cheap and I like to keep my original files on cards until I deliver the gallery. Once the gallery has been delivered I reformat these cards and use them for the next wedding.
